Welcome to the South Canberra Bridge Club (SCBC). Play commences each Wednesday evening, 7.15pm, at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Woden, ACT. Visitors are always welcome.

SCBC 2009 Swiss Pairs Congress

SCBC will be holding its Annual Congress on Sunday 30 August 2009 at the Woden Southern Cross Club. There will be six 8 board rounds commencing at 10am.

The flyer with event details and entry form is available for download - click here.

Prizes for Open, Seniors, Restricted and Novice will be available, depending on the number of entries. There will also be a prize for the 'Best All SCBC Pair'. No Pair can win more than one Prize.

SCBC Gold Point Pairs Club Championship

SCBC will hold its Pairs Club Championships August. The competition will be held on  three Wednesdays during August, namely August 5th, 12th & 19th in Open and Restricted Sections.  Restricted is a player below Life Master.  Members of SCBC (as at 1 July2009) are eligible to win either or the two Sections.

The winners of the Restricted Section will gain entry to  the Canberra GNP  Regional Final to be held in November 2009. This one day Final will select the Canberra pairs to contest the national GNP Final to be held during the Summer Festival of Bridge in January 2010.

The Winners of the Open section will get
a free entry to the BFACT Gala Pairs Day in October where they will be able to contest the Grand National Open Teams Final selection for the Canberra 2 spot in the GNOT National Final held at Banora Point in late November.

As these are qualifying heats for either GNOT or GNP  regional finals, players will earn Gold Master Points.

If numbers permit, the competition will be held as two separate sections.  Walk in pairs are encouraged to attend - they will be able to play during the night but will not be eligible to win the relevant sections.

To enable the competition to be organised early, please make entries to Roy or Bruce during regular Wednesday bridge sessions prior to August.  Substitutes will be permitted for one of the three sessions if required.

Entry fee will be $1 per player per session more than normal table money - this is to cover the cost of gold points.

SCBC Closed July 8 and 15

The Australian National Championship (ANC) is running in Canberra from July
3 to July 19. SCBC will not be running bridge sessions on Wednesday July
8th nor July 15th.

All SCBC members are encouraged to enter ANC Congress events during this period. There are many sessions (day time and evening) which accompany the main ANC events.  These Congress events are open to all players.

ANC programs and flyers are available at http://anc2009.com/.  See the
"paper entry" link for the full ANC programme.  Flyers will be available at SCBC.

As a special incentive to our players to play together and form teams together, a prize will be awarded to the highest scoring all SCBC pair or all-SCBC team in any of the Congress events throughout the ANC.  The term "all-SCBC" means either a home club member of SCBC or someone affiliated to another club but who plays regularly (ie at least twice a month) at SCBC.

SCBC Has Moved Rooms at the Southern Cross Club

SCBC now meets in the new Social Club area on B1 level (it is directly below the Ground Floor Reception desk). The new area can be accessed from the B1 level.

Weekly Duplicate

Tea/coffee/biscuits are kindly provided by the Southern Cross Club during Wednesday night play. SCBC strongly values the patronage of the Southern Cross Club and we ask all our members and visitors to respect this by leaving the room in a neat condition.

We attempt to provide a partner for visitors - just turn up on the night about 7pm.

The table money is $5 for members and $7.00 for non-members with concession rates for Students and Pensioner cardholders of $2.50 (members) and $5.00 (non-members).

So please come and join us for a game and discover the friendly but competitive nature of this club. We are fortunate to have amongst our members people who have represented both the ACT and Australia (in Open, Seniors and Womens teams) although most of us can only aspire to those lofty heights.

Membership

SCBC is an ABF affiliated club and Masterpoints are awarded at all sessions. We occasionally run Special Events such as our Annual Congress and Event Nights and they will be advertised at the top of this page.

You are most welcome to join the club. The 2009 annual membership fee is $30 for home members (that is, your ABF affiliation fee is paid via SCBC) and $15 for non-home members (that is, your ABF affiliation fee is paid via another club). Note your ABF number is required to gain ABF Masterpoints from SCBC sessions.
